DNA is an AI video editor for Mac, run during its beta by Narasimha Teja Reddy (“I”, “DNA”). This page says what DNA collects, why, and where it goes. The short version: your footage never leaves your Mac.

Your footage stays on your Mac

Your videos, their originals, proxies and the edits DNA renders are processed on your Mac and are never uploaded. DNA does not see, store or train on your footage.

What passes through DNA’s server

Some editing steps use cloud AI models. For those, the DNA app sends only what the step needs, through DNA’s server, to the model provider:

  • small, low-resolution still frames;
  • text facts the app measured on your Mac (for example cut counts, loudness and on-screen text), and transcripts;
  • 16 kHz mono audio for transcription, only if cloud transcription is turned on (during the beta, transcription runs on your Mac).

DNA’s server does not store these: they are held in memory for at most ten minutes, so an answer can reach you after a dropped connection, and are never written to disk or a database. Cloud models run through OpenRouter (with zero data retention) to Google’s Gemini models.

What DNA keeps

  • Your account: your email address, the terms version you accepted and when, and your credit balance.
  • Usage: for each cloud step, its name and version, the model, token counts, its cost and the credits charged, and the time. This is how credits are counted.
  • Signed-in devices: each device’s name, when it signed in, when it was last used and the IP address of that last use, so you can see and end your sessions.

Problem reports, only when you agree

If DNA crashes or hits an error, the app asks before sending a report. A report holds stack traces of DNA’s own code, error messages with file paths removed, DNA’s versions, your macOS version and Mac model, and, if you choose, DNA’s last log lines and anything you write. It never holds footage, file or folder names, transcripts, your email or your IP address. Reports go to Sentry (in the US) and are kept for 30 days.

The waitlist

If you join the waitlist, DNA keeps your email address, what you said you post (if you did) and the dates you joined, confirmed and were invited. It is used only to invite you to the beta and tell you when DNA opens. If you never confirm your email, your entry is deleted after 30 days. A Cloudflare Turnstile check on the form keeps bots out; Cloudflare processes the check under its own privacy policy. Your IP address is not stored with your entry.

Visits to this website

Vercel Web Analytics counts visits to this website and the dashboard: the page’s path (never anything after it, such as the waitlist link’s code), the referring site, and your country, browser, operating system and device type. It sets no cookies and stores no IP address; visits are told apart by a value Vercel discards after 24 hours.

Who DNA works with

  • Fly.io (runs DNA’s server, US)
  • Neon (DNA’s database, US)
  • Vercel (this website, the dashboard and their visit counts)
  • Resend (sends sign-in codes and waitlist emails)
  • Cloudflare (domains, the bot check, email forwarding)
  • OpenRouter and Google (cloud AI models)
  • Sentry (problem reports, only with your consent)

DNA does not sell your data, show ads, or use your data to train AI models.

Your choices

You can end any device’s session from the dashboard. To see, correct or delete your data, or to leave the waitlist, write to hello@getdna.app and it will be done within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your account and session records; usage records needed for accounting may be kept, without your email.

Age

DNA is for people 18 and older.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, DNA will say so in the app or by email before the change applies, and the date above will change.
